Hiking Pack List & Forest Rules

As Locals, we live and breathe adventure. We know a few things about our mountains. We’d like to share them with you so that you can have a great time out on the trails. It’s everyone’s job to protect our pristine wilderness and trails so here goes!

Drinking Water: Always bring water along for your hike. Our fresh water sources such as streams and creeks look clean and refreshing but they may contain containments that could make you sick! If you are pulling water out of streams use a water filtration system.

Dress Appropriately and Bring Layers: Sturdy hiking shoes and layers are a must! The weather changes fast in Colorado. Afternoon rain showers are common in the summer and temperatures can drop quickly as you gain elevation. It can snow in ANY month here. Check the weather before heading out for your adventure.

Trail Map and Compass: Bring along a physical trail map and compass. Keep in mind phone apps may or may not work. We have little to no cell service in the Redstone area.

Respect the Trail, the Wilderness and Wildlife: Stay on designated trails. You are entering wilderness while hiking. One of the highlights of your hike maybe seeing animals such as birds, squirrels, foxes or deer. We also have larger, more dangerous animals that make there home here. Be sure you know what to do if you encounter a bear, a mountain lion, or an elk.

Leave No Trace: We practice leave no trace principles as locals and we expect visitors to do the same. Leave the trail just as you found it.

When Nature Calls: There are no bathrooms at trailheads near Redstone. Plan accordingly. Bring a divvy bag or plan to dig a small narrow hole 6” deep to properly dispose of human waste.
